This project is an integrated assignment covering the science, writing, and reading curriculum. You may work in a group of 2 or 3 and your team must be cleared by Miss O'Brien. Several steps are involved, and they must be completed in order and correctly! At the launch of the project, you created a folder for all of your research materials! Be sure to keep it organized and return it to you learning team tray before you leave the Literacy Lounge! Hard work must be respected and treated with care!

STEP 1: ANIMAL

Choose an animal! Your animal must be part of the ANIMAL KINGDOM. Focus on the Scientific Classification of your animal as you start your investigation. Your animal must be either a vertebrate or invertebrate phylum, we have studied. Take a peek in your Agenda Books at the Scientific Classification Graph.

STEP 2: INQUIRY WEBS/CHARTS

All good scientists begin their discovery by generating questions that interest them! This helps to engage you in your study and lead you in the right direction! On the inside front cover of your Research Folder, you may create a list of questions and statements that you know or think about your animal. Make it your own, choose the best way to showcase your questions using a web or K-W-L Chart. You may even want to use your free time to create some webs using online web tools! Then, organize your questions into categories usng the QUESTION CLASSIFIER WORKSHEET that you will learn about as your journey continues!

STEP 3: RESEARCH
Begin researching your animal. You must have a minimum of three resources. It is important that you do not rely heavily on one type of resource. You must gather information the following types of sources:
1. An informational text. Be sure to survey the books text and graphic features, perhaps you will complete the nonfiction text feature scavenger hunt as you “get to know” your text.
2. An internet website of your choice. You will have some time dring lcass to do research, but some will need to be done at home. Suggested sites are included below.
3. The final resource may be one of your own choosing. You might find information from an encyclopedia, a magazine, a video, etc.
